Sonoma County is heading for its worst gridlock in the region since March, as the number of coronavirus cases in the Bay Area soars and more than 1,000 people could die from the disease. Sonoma County has announced that it has joined Marin County, Napa County and San Mateo County in passing a "stay-home public health order" that will take effect Friday.

In a news release late Thursday afternoon, Sonoma County officials said the region's preventive rollout - which falls under the California Department of Public Health's Regional Emergency Services (REMS) - has offset the rising number of cases and hospitalizations from coronavirus. The Sonomas County order comes a day after Governor Gavin Newsom announced a nationwide ban on the availability of intensive care beds in all regions of the state, where it has dropped to 15 percent.

The state's home stay order has already been implemented by the California Department of Health's Regional Emergency Management Service (REMS) in Sonoma County. The stay-at-home order applies to all counties in the Bay Area and the San Francisco Bay Area and is also in effect in San Jose, Santa Cruz County, San Mateo County and Santa Clara County in California.

With two lakes and redwood groves, hikers can enjoy the 2 km long Lake Trail that winds through the park and end the day with a picnic in the redwood forest. Spring Lake is perfect for hikers of all abilities and connects two of Sonoma County's most popular hiking trails, Lake and Redwood Trail. This family-friendly route can end with picnics and games in Howarth Park, or hikers looking for a more intense hike can take the needle path.

A favourite of intrepid hikers is Gunsight Rock, which overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day. If you are looking for a more strenuous hike with breathtaking views, take the 1,529 feet to the top of the rock where you can see the San Francisco Bay and Bay Bridge as well as the Pacific Ocean. The walk ends with a visit to a tasting room, but the trail is only open to everyone from 21 years of age.
